Time’s up for Thoroughbred Times

Kentucky based Thoroughbred Times has shut down ending a 100 year history covering the racing and breeding industries.

Thoroughbred Times ceased operations after its parent company BowTie Inc filed for bankruptcy.  Media sources speculated its advertising revenue had plummeted by 80% in recent years.  Its 27 full time employees were retrenched via a letter delivered by Federal Express.

Besides its multi-award winning magazine, which switched from weekly to biweekly in July, Thoroughbred Times also published the Today electronic newsletter, Stallion Directory, Buyer’s Guide and the thoroughbredtimes.com website.

Blood-Horse, which is operated by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, is now the only industry magazine remaining in Kentucky.
