Saam Time Lucky took the length of the straight to run down the leaders in the Morley Growers Market Maiden (1200m) at Belmont on Wednesday and that would suggest he will only improve getting over longer trips.

The 3yo son of High Chaparral’s Group 1 sire Toronado (Ire) will appreciate getting out to at least a mile for trainer Neville Parnham and a syndicate managed by Steve Kilner.  He was facing the starter for just the second time following a nondescript Northam appearance on July 16 behind TBWA Winner of the Week Riva Aquarama (Star Turn).

Stewards reported he raced greenly on debut in the Avon Valley and shifted outwards from heels racing into the home straight.  He was buffeted on jumping at Belmont and settled in the back-half before overhauling a wall of horses headed by Take The Field (War Chant) and Playing Free (Playing God).

“He found the line really well today,” winning jockey Steve Parnham said.  “He’s looks a nice horse and is bred to go further.  I followed Shaun (O’Donnell on Take The Field) and we were flushed out earlier than I wanted.

“But that turned out for the better because we missed the backwash and he kept building into the race.”

Saam Time Lucky was bred by Amelia Park from Rosmartini (Proart) who won a LR Belmont Oaks and LR Belmont Classic in 2016 for trainer Simon Miller and former Fremantle Dockers footballers Peter Bell and Jason Norris.

Bred by Ellie Giles, Rosmartini was reared in the same season as Silent Sedition (War Chant) and shared a paddock with the G1 MVRC William Reid Stakes winner at Korilya Stud.

Rosmartini has also foaled Belmont winner Marri Martini (Magnus) and her new-season 2yo filly is named Nicctini (Nicconi).  She was sold by Amelia Park for $50,000 to McEvoy Mitchell Racing at this year’s Perth Magic Millions
