Tracer bullet set for Epsom Hcp

Red Tracer will be set for G1 Epsom Handicap after an encouraging first-up victory in the LR Toy Show Quality at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Red Tracer (4m Dane Shadow – Kisma by Snippets) embarked on a steep learning curve during the autumn carnival and trainer Chris Waller reckons there’s even more improvement to come this time in.

“She was first-up over 1300m on a testing track and it was also her first time against the mares,” Waller explained.  “She will go through fillies and mares races and should get into the Epsom with a nice weight.”

Red Tracer won her maiden at Gosford last October and scored Listed victories in the P J Bell Stakes and James Carr Stakes in April.  She claimed more black-type on Saturday after holding off G1 Flight Stakes winner Secret Admirer (Dubawi) by a long neck.

Red Tracer is by Kitchwin Hills sire Dane Shadow and is a homebred for Geoff and Mary Grimish.  She is a younger sister to G1 AJC The Galaxy winner Shellscrape and their younger brother Green Tracer is ready to debut this week.

Green Tracer cost $240,000 from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  The Craig Carmody trained gelding won a Rosehill trial earlier this month and has been nominated for a Canterbury maiden this Wednesday.
