Darley Pin-up sires Warwick Farm double

Reigning champion Lonhro sired his first stakes winners of the season when Skytrain and Pinwheel were successful at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Skytrain (3g Lonhro – Que Sera Sera by Luskin Star) increased his sire’s black-type winner tally to 28 in the Listed Show County Quality.  He scored by a long head after getting the better of Winter King (One Cool Cat).

Skytrain is a half-brother to the G2 Reisling Slipper winner Manana and Listed winners Omens and Accepts.  It’s the family of G1 winning Commands gelding Erewhon.

Pinwheel (6g Lonhro – Quilt by Danehill) recorded his fourth stakes win in the G2 Warwick Stakes when overpowering Ilovethiscity.

Pinwheel won his maiden at Canterbury in October 2008 and he came of age as a four year-old in the Ramornie Hcp at Grafton in July 2010.

He raced 10 times in four states last season winning at G3 level in the Canterbury Classic and Healy Stakes in addition to the Pink Ribbon Cup at Caulfield.

Pinwheel’s dam Quilt is a three-quarter sister to G1 Hong Kong winner Charming City (Chief’s Crown) and she is also a full sister to G2 AJC Stan Fox Stakes winner West Point.

Quilt had thrown winners by Canny Lad, Octagonal (2) and Quest for Fame before Pinwheel.  Her 3yo is a Domesday colt named Trapunto and he is a last start placegetter at Newcastle.  The mare also has a 2yo Elusive Quality colt and a yearling filly by Lonhro.

Lonhro was crowned Australia’s Champion sire for 2010-11 with earnings in excess of $8.7 million.  He will stand the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $77,000 (inc gst).
