Tracy a Turf Queen at Rosehill

Typhoon Tracy returns to the scene of her first Group 1 win at Rosehill this Saturday.  The Red Ransom mare kept her unbeaten record intact when she claimed the G1 Coolmore Stakes 12 months ago.

Typhoon Tracy (4m Red Ransom – Tracy’s Element by Last Tycoon) has built up a 12: 9-1-1 record since making her debut at Moonee Valley in September 2008.  The only blemishes in her career so far were in the Liston, Makybe Diva and Underwood Stakes in the lead-up to an aborted Cox Plate campaign last year.

Trainer Peter Moody freshened her up for the Melbourne Cup carnival and she responded with a five length victory in the G1 Myer Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Derby day.

Typhoon Tracy’s maintained that form with G1 wins in the Orr Stakes (1400m) and Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield in February before arriving in Sydney.

Moody elected to bypass the Coolmore this year to target a Golden Slipper day start in either the Queen Of The Turf Stakes or the George Ryder Stakes.
Rival trainer Stephen McKee was happy Moody opted to race against the fillies as he has New Zealand Horse of the Year King Mufhasa in the George Ryder.

McKee and his father Trevor were the guiding lights behind mighty mare Sunline who won the Coolmore twice and the Tea Rose in four starts at Rosehill.  Her only defeat there was a neck second to Adam in the 1999 Theo Marks.

King Mufhasa (Pentire) ran a close third in last year’s George Ryder and goes into this year’s race fresh from a brilliant victory in the G1 Otaki Maori Classic (1600m) on February 28.

McKee said it took the gelding a long time to recover from a torrid run in last year’s Doncaster and he opted not to put him in that race again.  “It’s taken him the best part of a year to get over it,” he said.

“He’s back to his best now but I didn’t think the Doncaster was the right race for him this year as he’s too high up in the handicaps now.  The All-Aged Stakes might be more to his liking.”
