For the second day running Doyle Bloodstock bought a session-topper by a Darley sire at the Tattersalls October yearling sale.
On Day 1 of Book 2, Peter Doyle paid 150,000gns for an Exceed And Excel and on Day 2 Ross Doyle weighed in with 245,000gns for a Shamardal colt.
Yeomanstown Stud catalogued Tuesday’s leader who is from Princess Spindrift (Desert Prince). The Shamardal colt initially changed hands at the 2011 Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 32,000gns. “He is from a tough family and looks tough,” said Doyle. “He is a lovely-moving horse with a pedigree and looks. We thought he was the week’s standout.”
A Teofilo colt out of Poppets Sweetlove (Foxhound) was next best at 220,000gns. His dam is a half-sister to Champion European Sprinter Overdose. “You dream of having one that everyone wants,” Whatton Manor’s Peter Player said. “He did have a lot of vettings, but before you sell you have to bring your hopes down to a sensible level.”
Champion sire Galileo was in great demand during Book 1 last week and the only Galileo catalogued for Book 2 was purchased by BBA Ireland for 205,000gns. The filly is out of G3 winner Redstone Dancer.
Trade stepped up a level on Day 2 of Book 2 with Tattersalls reporting 208 lots sold for 9.30 million guineas. The average of 44,714gns was up 13% and the median of 35,000gns rose 17%. The clearance rate was 87%.
The penultimate session of Book 2 continues on Wednesday.
