Talented gelding True Gold scored a timely win for his sire Startac (USA) in the Crown Perth Hcp (1650m) at Belmont on Saturday.
True Gold (5g Startac – True Pixie by Dauberval) has been a regular money-spinner for connections since Heytesbury Stud sold him for $15,000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions Autumn yearling sale.
Saturday’s win increased his earnings to more than $230,000 since a debut victory at Bunbury in October 2011. “He’s tough and consistent but I was disappointed with his last couple of runs,” trainer Grant Williams said. “He’s come off a three-week turnaround today and I’ve hammered the work into him since that last run.”
True Gold arrived with a fast-finish 12 years to the day since Startac scored a career-high victory in the G1 Secretariat Stakes.
The Secretariat Stakes is part of the prestigious Arlington Million meeting and the latest editions of both races attracted a 34,200 crowd in Chicago on Saturday. Leading owner-breeder Kenneth Ramsey and his sire Kitten’s Joy won both with Real Solution (Million) and Admiral Kitten (Secretariat).
Ramsey won his first Secretariat with Kitten’s Joy in 2005 and another common factor is the Northern Dancer sireline – Startac (Theatrical) / Kitten’s Joy (El Prado).
St Jude Pastoral owner James Miorada imported Startac to Western Australia and stands him for a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee.
