Unbridled’s Song sireline continues at Taylor Made

Barely a week after Taylor Made champion Unbridled’s Song died in Kentucky, his top-class son Rockport Harbor succumbed to laminitis at Pin Oak Lane Stud in Pennsylvania.

Unbridled’s Song was 20.  Rockport Harbor was only 11.

Rockport Harbor won 5 races including the G2 Remsen Stakes and G3 Nashua Stakes.  He had been a $470,000 buy from and Taylor Made at the 2003 Keeneland September sale yearling sale.

He retired to Darley’s Jonabell Farm in 2007 and moved to Pin Oak this earlier this year.

Unbridled’s Song was in the news again on Saturday when his grey colt Cross Traffic won the G1 Whitney Invitational (1800m) at Saratoga.  Cross Traffic is the latest Group 1 winner for trainer Todd Pletcher this year.

Pletcher’s first Group 1 this term came in February when Graydar won the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park.  Unbridled’s Song also broke through the 100th stakes winner milestone in the Donn.

Earlier this week, Taylor Made confirmed it had purchased an interest in Graydar for stud duties.  He will be retired after the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic in November.

“Graydar is the closest thing I’ve seen to Unbridled’s Song, and obviously we’ve had the privilege to be around a lot of good ones through the years,” Taylor Made president Duncan Taylor said.  “Graydar’s combination of looks, class, and sheer brilliance remind me of his sire, both on and off the racetrack, and he has that special presence like Unbridled’s Song.

“We felt like we had to be a part of Graydar after his awesome performance in the Donn.  The entire thoroughbred community suffered a big loss with the passing of Unbridled’s Song, and we felt it was time to announce some good news.”
