First southern foal by Dick Turpin

Group 1 shuttler Dick Turpin sired the first foal of the season when his colt from Sharufa arrived at Mungrup Stud.

Sharufa (Untouchable) also delivered an early foal last year when her filly by Due Sasso was born on August 8.

“The colt is a really nice athletic youngster,” Mungrup owner Gray Williamson said.  “He has a nice strong hind-quarter and a bit of white on him, having thrown to his sire.”

Dick Turpin (Arakan) covered 88 mares at an $8,800 (inc gst) fee last year and will be back at Mungrup later this month in readiness for his second southern book at the same price.

Dick Turpin’s trainer Richard Hannon prepared another feature winner by Arakan at the Glorious Goodwood carnival last week.

Toormore (2c Arakan – Danetime Out by Danetime) had won on debut at Leicester in May and stepped up for a G2 victory in the Vintage Stakes on Wednesday.  Bookies made him a 25-1 shot for the 2014 English 2000 Guineas.

Dick Turpin won the G2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in 2009 and returned the following year to finish second to Makfi in the English 2000 Guineas.
