Value buying at Malaysian 2YO Sale

The Malaysian National Stud conducted its National 2YO Sale on Friday when Inglis sold 29 lots for RM634,000.

The catalogue included juveniles by locally based stallions Dolphin Street, Magic of Money and Pacific Prince and they were augmented by Australian – NZ based sires Promontory Gold, Align, Eavesdropper, Al Samer and Mutawaajid.

“The National Stud did the best possible job preparing the horses for sale,” Inglis director Peter Heagney said.  “I’ve been travelling to Malaysia for 20 years and there was some good value buying.”

Australasian bred racehorses dominate the Malaysian circuit, nevertheless, Malaysian National Stud bred gallopers have been competitive this season with 25 winners in open company.  “Malaysian bred horses make up less than 5% of the population here,” National Stud manager Ray Knight said.  “So there is a lot of merit and encouragement now that the horses are proving truly competitive.”

The Malaysian G1 Coronation Cup is scheduled for this Sunday at Ipoh.  Fastnet Rock’s Inglis Easter Sale graduate Speed Baby is the one to beat.  He has already won at the highest level three times on the MRA circuit, winning the 2010 Coronation Cup, 2011 Patron’s Bowl and 2012 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor.
