Vegas Star is ready to make a comeback to racing in Singapore after recovering from tendon problems that have curtailed his career to just four starts.
Vegas Star is a son of Lomar Park sire Arena and he won the Juvenile Championship (G3) at Kranji on the way to a winning hat-trick in July 2006.
He was on the cusp of racing stardom before his career was suddenly halted following a brave second to Safety Outlet in the Singapore Guineas (G3) in December 2006. “If he had not been slammed by Safety Outlet at the start, he would have been unbeaten,” trainer Mohd Yusof said.
Vegas Star (5g Arena – Frogmore by Archregent) remained at Yusof’s stables after the injury and he reappeared in a barrier trial last Tuesday. Despite a tardy getaway, he shaped nicely under jockey Mark Gallagher.
“He felt a bit rusty but still gave me a nice feel,” Gallagher said. “He was a little bit slow out and immediately tried to go with the others. But I eased him back and gave him a bit of pacework, which is all he needed after such a long lay-off. Yusof has given him plenty of time to recover, and hopefully his patience will pay off.”
Vegas Star is a long-time Lomar Park product. His dam is by Archregent, his second dam is by Adirondack Holme and his third dam is by Le Cordonnier who was Lomar Park’s foundation sire when owner Fred Peisah established the Werombi nursery in the 1960s.
SINGAPORE sprint sensation Rocket Man is already back at trainer Patrick Shaw’s stable following surgery to repair a hairline fracture to his off-side foreleg.
The rising four-year-old underwent surgery at the Singapore Turf Club’s veterinary hospital and surgeon Dr Eugene Reynders described the operation as a success.
Rocket Man (Viscount) had a screw inserted to his leg to fuse the hairline fracture and Dr Reynders said the gelding had recovered well from the surgery.
