Veracious has Winning Edge at Ascot

Systematic sired his first Australian winner when Veracious scored by a length in the Winning Edge Hcp over 1400m at Ascot on Railway Stakes day.

Veracious (3g Systematic – Royal Lace by Serheed) is prepared by Trevor Andrews and the Ascot trainer was quick to predict a bright future for the gelding.  “He’s always shown plenty of ability.  We may even have a look at the Derby with him although he might have too much dash for longer distances.”

The winner’s dam won three races up to a mile in WA and she has also foaled the minor winners Soprano Rex (Poliuto) and Zannanza (Akhenaton).

Systematic made his name as a high-class English performer winning 8 of his 20 starts including the G3 Ormonde Stakes and G3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes for trainer Mark Johnston.

The son of Rainbow Quest stood at Barridale Stud in 2006 but only 65% of his mares returned positives.  His fate was sealed the following year when his fertility count dropped to 46%.

Systematic encountered similar problems in England where he stood for just one season at East Burrow Farm in Devon.

His first winner from that sole crop was smart filly Hermione’s Magic.  She won at Wolverhampton in October 2008 and was also successful at Del Mar after being sold to Californian based owners Al and Saundra Kirkwood.
