Victorian stallions Share every winner at Ararat

Locally owned stayer Something To Share returned to a Melbourne Cup reception after winning the $50,000 Ararat Gold Cup (2200m) on Sunday.

Something To Share is prepared by Cup winning trainer Darren Weir and is a homebred for Ararat committeeman Leo Harrington.  In a thrilling three-way finish, he held off Straight Jacket and Mujadale to go back-to-back after winning the St Arnaud Cup a fortnight ago.

“Winning your own Cup, and breeding the horse yourself, it’s just absolutely fantastic,” Harrington said.  “Darren is master trainer and Harry Coffey gave him a perfect ride.”

Something To Share is from the final Victorian crop of Darley shuttler Country Reel (Danzig) who stood here for two southern seasons but didn’t return after E.I.  His dam Milassie (Brackenbury) won two races up to 1850m but the next three dams were either unraced or unplaced.

“Ararat was right behind him today and he did a really good job,” Coffey said.  “He went through a bit of a rough patch but the owners that stayed in are getting the rewards now.”

Victorian stallions swept the Ararat Cup card with every winner conceived in the Super VOBIS State.   The 8 winners were;  CHOPPA (Amadeus Wolf – Chatswood), SQUIDENSQUIZZ (Keep The Faith – Greta West), ROCKY BOOMBOA (Artie Schiller – Emirates Park), MOULIN (God’s Own – Greta West), JUDGES (Domesday – Darley), SOMETHING TO SHARE (Country Reel – Darley), TYCOON TARA (Written Tycoon – Woodside Park) and DANTE’S FINALE (Crystal Finale – Glenara Stud).
