Vinery Ready for Blue Diamond

Samaready firmed into a $2.10 favourite for the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes after drawing perfectly for Victoria’s premier juvenile event at Caulfield this Saturday.

Samaready is by Champion Vinery sire More Than Ready and she drew 8 while others in the market like No Looking Back (19) and Jimando (20) weren’t so lucky.

Vinery has gone close twice in the Blue Diamond with placegetters Halibery (2003) and Perfectly Ready (2005).

Samaready (2f More Than Ready – Samar by Secret Savings) goes into the Blue Diamond unbeaten after victories in the VRC Spotless Plate (1000m) at Flemington and G3 Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield.  She clocked a much quicker time than the colts in the Prelude.

The Mick Price trained filly was originally entered for the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud but was withdrawn and sent to the Inglis Easter Sale under the Vinery Stud banner.

“She hurt herself and couldn’t be prepped in time for the Magic Millions,” Vinery’s Adam White recalled.  “Gerry decided to send her down to us for Easter and she arrived while we were still at the Gold Coast.

“We had heard reports that she was a good type and she certainly was a lovely filly.  When they are in your draft you get a chance to really see how they cope with things… how they eat, how they relax and how they cope with work.  The longer we had her, the more we liked her.

“Several of the Vinery Stud partners had decided to get together and buy some fillies to race and straight away she was on the short list.  We asked Damon Gabbedy at Belmont Bloodstock to bid on her as she was part of our consignment.”

Samaready is the fourth foal for Samar who is a half-sister to G1 stayer County Tyrone (Danewin).  Her third live foal Night War is also pushing the pedigree over in Perth.

Night War (General Nediym) was WA Champion 2YO for 2011-12 after winning the G2 Karrakatta Plate.  She returned to capture the G3 Lee-Steere Classic in December and added the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy on February 11.

Harvey bought Samar for $28,000 from Emirates Park owner Nassar Lootah in 2004.  She has a Northern Meteor yearling filly and a Testa Rossa filly foal in September.

Blue Diamond second favourite The Travelling Man also drew ideally in barrier 2.  He is by Vinery sire Mossman and is on the second line of betting after firming from $26 to $9.50.

The Travelling Man staked his claim for the $1 million event by taking out the colts division of the LR Blue Diamond Preview.  He was bred and sold by Harvey’s Westbury Stud for $80,000 at the 2011 NZB Select Sale.
