Vosne Romanee was crowned NZ Horse of the Year for 2009-10 season at the Mercedes awards on Friday night. The veteran gelding captured 28 of a total 41 votes defeating Katie Lee (9) and Monaco Consul (2).
Vosne Romanee (Electronic Zone) was a G1 winner of the Kelt Capital at Hastings and the Zabeel Classic and NZ Stakes at Ellerslie. He represents the Jeff Hinds stable based at Palmerston North. He also won the Champion Middle Distance Horse title.
Banchee (Oratorio) won the Champion 2YO award and Katie Lee (Pins) claimed 3YO honours. The latter is owned by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan who picked up the Owner of the Year Award.
Tavistock (Montjeu) took the Sprinter of the Year Award with a near clean sweep of all votes and Red Ruler (Viking Ruler) won the Champion Stayer title.
Windsor Park Stud was named Breeder of the Year with feature winners Monaco Consul, Military Move, Beauty Flash, Gold Onyx and Casabella Lane.
Miss Jessie Jay (Spectacularphantom) captured the Broodmare of the Year award courtesy of stakes winners Katie Lee and Banchee. Stallion honours were divided between Zabeel (Dewar and Centaine awards) and Volksraad (Grosvenor award).
