O’Reilly mare Thy (NZ) completed a week of celebrations for Waikato Stud in the LR Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Thy (5m O’Reilly – A Star Affair by Star Way) motored down the middle of the track to defeat That’s The One (Snippetson) and Dany The Fox (Danroad) by a length.
Waikato Stud dominated the NZ Thoroughbred Awards earlier this week when Ocean Park was crowned Horse of the Year with 44 votes out of a possible 46. And his sire O’Reilly claimed an unprecedented clean sweep of the Dewar, Grosvenor and Centaine Awards.
Thy’s trainer Peter Moody will try and talk Waikato owner Garry Chittick into keeping the mare in training for a Group 1 tilt at the Toorak Handicap. “She’s a good quality mare,” Moody said. “I reckon she’s got a little bit more time up her sleeve and the Toorak is an option.”
Thy owns a lovely Kiwi pedigree and is a three-quarter sister to the O’Reilly feature winners The Jewel (G1 NZ 1000 Guineas) and The One (G3 VRC Danehill Stakes).
Thy’s dam (A) Star Affair was a G2 winner of the Travis Stakes and her earlier foals include G3 AJC Summer Cup winner Solid Billing (Rock of Gibraltar) and South African stakes Galileo’s Galaxy (Galileo).
