Stratum colt Va Pensiero joined fellow Inglis graduates Snitzerland and Foxwedge on the G3 San Domenico Stakes honour-roll at Rosehill on Saturday.
Va Pensiero (3c Stratum – Rosmarino by Langfuhr) controlled the race on the pace before accelerating to a three-quarter length victory over Cluster (Fastnet Rock) and Windjammer (Bernardini).
“I thought he would go well first-up,” trainer Jason Coyle said. “He crossed from a wide gate easily and was strong to the line.
“He’s comes back a nice colt but we won’t make a decision on the Golden Rose until after he runs in the Run To The Rose in a fortnight.”
The San Domenico has a history of top-class winners like General Nediym, Testa Rossa and Charge Forward who have gone on to successful stud careers.
Va Pensiero is the 19th stakes winner for Widden Stud stallion Stratum. The San Domenico winner is raced by Barry Collins and he also owned the dam Rosmarino who won 5 races in Sydney.
Collins catalogued Va Pensiero with Brooklyn Lodge at the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic yearling sale but the colt failed to make a $40,000 reserve.
Rosmarino has a yearling colt by Darley sire Denman but was covered in 2012.
