Atlantic Jewel confirmed her status as racing’s latest superstar with a stunning win in the G2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Atlantic Jewel (3f Fastnet Rock – Regard by Zabeel) treated her rivals with contempt to win by seven lengths without ever hitting top gear.
A $320,000 purchase from Vinery at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Atlantic Jewel is now unbeaten in five runs. She was coming off a G1 victory in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.
“That was arrogant,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said. “She is just a very special horse and I will have a chat with the (Coolmore) boys next week before we make any longer term plans.”
Atlantic Jewel is owned by Coolmore Stud’s Sue & M V Magnier, Lou Macri, Michael Kirwan and Mathilde Texier. The G1 VRC Oaks at Flemington on Thursday would appear to be a forgone conclusion for the Fastnet Rock filly after the Wakeful result.
She is a daughter of Coolmore sire Fastnet Rock and her dam Regard won at Bendigo and Sandown for Lloyd Williams in a three start career.
Atlantic Jewel was her first foal but there was only one more before her premature death earlier this year.
