Quality filly Night War has added more silverware to her trophy cabinet with a popular victory in Perth’s R M Williams Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1400m) at Ascot.
Night War (3f General Nediym – Samar by Secret Savings) sat just behind the leaders and then railed up for a soft win over Flag Officer (Excites) and Bliss Street (Flying Spur).
The Simon Miller trained filly had won the G2 Karrakatta Plate and G3 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic last year. “I will take her across to Melbourne for the Angus Armanasco and the Kewney Stakes,” Miller said. “I’ve been waiting for the right horse to go back east and I think she is the one.”
Night War was a $90,000 purchase for former AFL footballer Peter Bell and Perth businessman Ray Meadowcroft at the 2010 Magic Gold Coast Millions. Her younger half-sister Samaready (More Than Ready) won the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies earlier in the day at Caulfield.
Night War was bred and sold by Baramul Stud and is one of 37 individual stakes winners by General Nediym. Her dam Samar is a half sister to Queensland Derby, Metropolitan Handicap and Sydney Cup winner County Tyrone. The mare has since foaled fillies by Northern Meteor and Testa Rossa.
