Darlington double in Perth Magic Millions

Darlington Abbey gave Simon Miller and Patrick Carbery a history-making double in the Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Saturday.

The Ascot based trainer-jockey combination has won the Perth Magic Millions 3YO Trophy earlier in the day with Night War.

Darlington Abbey (2f Stratum – Wynyard Hall by Blackfriars) was sent out one of the popular elects in the Magic Millions Classic after an outstanding debut win at Pinjarra last month.  “She was a lovely bodied filly as a yearling but one of her legs wasn’t too flash,” Miller recalled.  “But I told the owners to have a throw at the stumps and they got her for $50,000.”

Miller used her Pinjarra debut to earn a bit of prizemoney so she would qualify for the Magic Millions.  And he was confident she would be hard to beat off her work on Tuesday morning.  “I will put her out for about a week,” Miller said.  “Then she can go to the Gimcrack and the Karrakatta and then we will weigh up things before the Sires’ Produce Stakes.”

Darlington Abbey was a $50,000 graduate from Durham Lodge at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions and has already returned over $156,000.  Among the filly’s part owners is star West Coast Eagles ruckman Dean Cox.
