Waratah a Westspeed star

Waratah’s Secret showed he could a star at the spring and summer carnivals after treating his rivals with contempt in the Westspeed 3YO Handicap (1300m) at Belmont on Saturday.

The son of Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio scored a stunning six length victory on debut last month and he was just as impressive when winning with a leg in the air yesterday.  A $43,000 buy for David Harrison at the 2008 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale, Waratah’s Secret is rated very highly by connections.

“I think he’s a superstar,” Harrison stated.  “We’ll just weight up whether to give him a break now and come back for the summer carnival or head him straight to the WA Guineas.  He’s learning all the time and hopefully he will keep improving.”

Waratah’s Secret (3g Oratorio – Blissfully by Zabeel) is from a half-sister to Flemington stakes winner Perfect Evening (Imposing).  Their dam Bliss (Kaoru Star) is a half-sister to G1 winning racehorse and sire Blazing Saddles.

Oratorio was a precocious son of Stravinsky winning the Tommy Smith Slipper (LR) at Doomben and the Adelaide Magic Millions at Morphettville before training on at three to claim the C S Hayes Stakes (G3) at Moonee Valley.

Oratorio will stand for an $11,000 service fee at Mungrup Stud this year.
