Hillside Thoroughbreds has a perfect strike-rate with its two year-olds this season and the Nagambie nursery notched more black-type with Whispering Brook on Saturday.
Whispering Brook is unbeaten in four starts and reached the pinnacle in Perth with a dominant, front-running victory in the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m). The Simon Miller trained filly won the opening juvenile event of the season at Belmont and then claimed the LR Supremacy Stakes and G3 Gimcrack Stakes leading up to the Karrakatta.
“The scary thing is she just keeps coming on,” Miller said. “Every time she’s raced, she has improved.”
Whispering Brook (2f Hinchinbrook – Artful Whisper by Machiavellian) was purchased by Alan MacAlister as a foal for $45,000 from Hillside Thoroughbreds at the 2014 Magic Millions National Sale.
“Simon rang from the Gold Coast and recommended a weanling filly that would suit me,” MacAlister said. “She was a nice type and was at the right price. Winning this race is just amazing.”
The Karrakatta increased her earnings to $505,350 and Miller indicated she will stay in training for the LR WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in a fortnight.
Hillside Thoroughbreds owners Peter and Areti Arvanitis were in the spotlight earlier this season with their homebred filly Areti. She won on debut at Moonee Valley and was then prominent in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes before wilting in the final furlong.
Areti (Street Sense) is spelling in readiness for a spring campaign aimed towards the G1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in October.
Hillside’s bloodstock manager Peter Ford purchased Whispering Brook’s dam Artful Whisper for 62,000gns at the 2005 Tattersalls Sale and Areti’s dam Ajamais for 12,000 euros at the 2011 Arqana Sale.
