Musk Creek Farm owner David Kobritz received a last-minute update for the Inglis Easter Sale when Lucky Bubbles demolished his rivals in the G2 Hong Kong Sprint Cup (1200m) on Sunday.
Kobritz has catalogued his yearling half-sister by Stratum as Lot 216 on Wednesday. He bought their dam Bubble Below (Hussonet) off fellow Victorian breeder Rick Jamieson for $145,000 at the 2013 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.
Lucky Bubbles has always looked a top-class sprinter in the making and he’s not far off the finished article in the aftermath of an exhilarating two-length triumph at Sha Tin. “He just covers so much ground,” jockey Brett Prebble said. “That’s probably why he’s so good – his stride is so much longer than the other horses.
“He does it at the front end and then he shows that turn of foot at the back end. He’s awesome.”
Lucky Bubbles (Sebring) enjoyed a smooth passage parked behind pacemaker Rad before Prebble shook the reins two furlongs from home. The response was decisive as the gelding accelerated and asserted his superiority in a winning time of 1.08.36s.
Trainer Francis Lui will set him for the G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) at Sha Tin on May 1.
Jamieson sold Lucky Bubbles for $90,000 through the Three Bridges draft at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. He’s the first foal of Caulfield stakes-placed mare Bubble Below and she is also the dam of Gosford winner Bubbleberry (Statue Of Liberty) and unraced 2yo Aeecee Glory (Wanted).
Kobritz retained Aeecee Glory and the colt is on the books with Darren Weir.
