English based Whitsbury Manor Stud has announced it will reverse shuttle Foxwedge to its Hampshire nursery in 2013.
Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) is currently serving his first mares at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley after a career that saw him gather a Group 1 victory in the Wm Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley. He also won the G2 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick and G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill.
“It’s a hugely exciting day,” Whitsbury Manor tweeted on Friday. “As the old saying goes, ‘If you can’t beat them, join them’!”
Foxwedge fetched $925,000 as an Inglis Easter yearling in 2010. After his career-high victory at Moonee Valley, trainer John O’Shea signalled a Royal Ascot campaign to increase his chances of a dual-hemisphere career at stud.
A respiratory complaint ruled out a racing excursion to England but, in any event, he will fly out for a stud engagement in the New Year.
Foxwedge will join Sakhee’s Secret at Whitsbury Manor. He shuttles to The Oaks Stud in New Zealand and is home-and-hosed for the UK-Ireland first season winners’ premiership this year.
