Sunspeed breeders Lou and Kerry Erceg celebrated the third win in just five starts by their promising homebred Who Dat Singa at Ascot on Saturday.

The Ercegs bought into the family when Perth bloodstock agent John Chalmers (FBAA) purchased his dam Singadablues (Danasinga) from Cambridge Stud at the 2010 NZB National Sale.

Singadablues was a bargain at $5,500 for Chalmers at Karaka.  Her dam Centolde (Centaine) is a half-sister to G1 NZ Derby winner Great Command.

Chalmers recommended Iffraaj (GB) to Lou and Kerry as the right sire for their new purchase and she foaled Karma Girl and Who Dat Singa to him in New Zealand.

Who Dat Singa is trained by Alan Mathews and had broken his maiden on debut at Pinjarra before winning at Ascot for the first time in October.  He then earned black-type when placed in the LR Fairetha Stakes before pulling up with an injured near-hind heel in the G2 WA Guineas.

“Forget that run and you can’t fault him,” Mathews said after his front-running victory over a mile on Saturday.  “He’s a nice, strong horse and carried 59kg today.  He’s got a bright future.”

Who Dat Singa will be nominated for an open company event over 1800m on December 23.  “He’s still a work in progress,” jockey Pat Carbery said.  “I think he’s a better chaser than a leader but he settled well and they battled to catch him in the straight.”

The Ercegs have retired Karma Girl as an unraced four year-old and she has been covered by Universal Ruler at Scenic Lodge.
