Cornerstone Stud stallions enjoyed a winning weekend to see out the old season and there’s plenty to look forward to in 2011-12.
Good Journey (Nureyev) improved his strike-rate when consistent galloper Mr. Griswold scored another well deserved victory at Caulfield. Dropping back from the 1600m to 1400m proved no concern, with the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained gelding taking his overall record to 5 wins from 13 starts.
Good Journey finished 2010-11 with 23 winners from just 40 runners highlighted by Sound Journey’s win in the G2 Crystal mile on Cox Plate day. His exciting galloper Happy Trails, who was Group placed three times during the autumn, has been earmarked for some major races this spring.
Good Journey is set to make his mark in 2011-12 when his first Cornerstone bred progeny hit the track.
Champion Australian sire Hussonet continues to churn out the winners. There were another four over the weekend including the promising Singapore based Arowana Dot Com.
Hussonet finished the season with 88 winners. The former Arrowfield stallion sired G1 winner Eagle Falls (Oakleigh Plate) and G1 runners-up Run For Levi (Caulfield Guineas) and Heartsareforlove (Thousand Guineas).
Barely a Moment rallied late in the season to finish with 22 winners. His Morphettville winner Minute By Minute resumed from a spell to defeat a handy field of sprinters over 1050m. Runner-up was Hussonet filly Hot Diamond.
Minute By Minute is trained by David Hayes and the win made amends for a luckless run in the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
Face Value rounded out a successful past few days for Cornerstone with two more winners. The son of Red Ransom very nearly made it three when Good Value was nosed out of a photo finish at Caulfield over 1800m on Saturday.
