Winning Theory for Exceed And Excel

Exceed And Excel sired his second European stakes winner this week after Pyman’s Theory powered away from a field of high-class colts in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown on Thursday.

The Darley shuttler grabbed a G2 last Sunday when Excelebration won the German 2000 Guineas at Cologne.

Pyman’s Theory (2f Exceed And Excel – Gazebo by Cadeaux Genereux) is trained by Tom Dascombe for English international soccer star Michael Owen.  She led from the outset and never saw another rival for the remainder of the 1000 metre scamper.

The filly had won second time out at Leicester in April and was then fifth to Miss Work Of Art (Dutch Art) in a Listed event at York earlier this month.  “She was beaten by the best two-year-old I’ve seen this year at York,” Dascombe said.  “We will go to Royal Ascot but I don’t think we could beat Miss Work Of Art in a month of Sundays.”

Pyman’s Theory cost 42,000 pounds as a yearling.  She is a half-sister to the Curragh Listed winner Forthefirstime (Dr Fong) and they are from a half-sister to the dam of G1 July Stakes winner Nevisian Lad.

Exceed and Excel is just finishing his sixth season shuttling to Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud.  He stands at the Newmarket nursery for a 12,000 pounds service fee.
