Duke of Marmalade’s first crop foals have been in demand at the Magic Millions National Sale this week and the Coolmore shuttler topped the third session with a $75,000 colt on Friday.

Danehill’s Irish bred champion was represented by colts that sold for $150,000 (ex Mrs. Tendulkar) and $100,000 (ex Dressed to Impress) during the first two sessions of select foals.

Duke of Marmalade’s colt that made $75,000 is from Royal Academy mare Celestia.  He was offered in the supplementary catalogue that followed the non-select session on Friday afternoon and was sold to Magic Millions (as agent).

The colt’s dam Celestia won four races in Sydney and Melbourne and has already thrown winning fillies by Choisir and Tiger Hill.  Her latest foal was consigned by Darling Downs nursery Superior Thoroughbreds.

The session-topper is likely to join the stables of a leading Brisbane trainer.

Magic Millions reported turnover of $442,200 at an average of $4,859 on Friday.  The average was up 20% from last year and the 82% clearance rate was also encouraging.

“It turned out to be a very good session’s selling,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.  “The top price achieved for a supplementary lot was a record.  And, after a couple of tough sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, it was nice to see some good competition around the ring today.”
