Winning wave by Henny Hughes

Henny Hughes (USA) is riding the crest of a winning wave with another two stakes winners in North America over the weekend.

The Rangeview Stud resident is flying high with his current crop of two year-olds in North America.  He has sired 12 individual juvenile winners this year and will keep rising up the table with Beholder and Carried Interest both slated for upcoming Group 1 assignments.

Butterfly Soul (2f Henny Hughes – Zada Rae by Unbridled’s Song) was the first to salute in the LR Shepherd Stakes (1400m) on a blistering hot afternoon at Fairplex Park in Los Angeles.  Tailed off last in the early stages, she tacked on and then cut loose as the leaders melted to score by more three lengths running away.

Equibase reported;  “Butterfly Soul circled foes three and four wide into the straight and then inhaled her rivals to accelerate away for a convincingly victory.”

Butterfly Soul had won her only previous start at Golden Gate on August 17 for owner Johnny Taboda.  Her dam is a half-sister to Debutant’s Halo (Sunny’s Halo) who was a G2 winner of the Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct.

Welcome Dance registered another stakes win on turf for Henny Hughes at Delaware on Saturday.  She led from barrier-to-box for a three length victory in the LR Christiana Stakes over 1800 metres.

Welcome Dance (3f Henny Hughes – Choreograph by Dynaformer) had won the LR Walking In Da Sun Stakes over the same circuit in July.  Her overall record is 4 wins in 8 starts and $160,000 in prizemoney for owner-breeder Ramona Bass.

Henny Hughes has now sired 127 winners of 250 races at a 58% strike-rate.  Welcome Dance is from a winning daughter of G1 Santa Anita Oaks placed filly Dance for Vanny (Sovereign Dancer).

Rangeview studmaster Robbie Gray reports another pleasing update for Henny Hughes is news the first two mares he covered this season are both in foal.  Lead Rope (Real Jester) won six sprints in Perth for the Haddleton family and she returned a PPT at 15 days.  So did maiden mare Cool Zero (Danzero) who is owned by Siobhan Campbell.

Henny Hughes stands for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee at Rangview Stud this season.  For further details, broodmare owners can contact Robbie Gray (0409 243 461) or Jody Gray (0418 933 707).
