Kanzan booked a place in the G1 Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm with a gutsy display in the G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
The Sydneysider powered home to beat local mare Zero Rock (Danzero) and Victorian visitor Returntosender (Elusive City).
Kanzan (4m Commands – Cherry Lodge by Grand Lodge) will use the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes in a fortnight as a final lead-up to the Winter Stakes on June 25. “She’s all quality and she gets better with each preparation,” trainer Peter Snowden said. “She’s very adaptable and performs equally well in wet or dry conditions.”
The Darley mare broke through at black-type level in the Listed Ladies Day Cup at Hawkesbury in November and she notched another Listed win in the Darley Crown at the same venue last month.
Kanzan is a Commands half-sister to G3 performer Giresun (Domesday). They come from the family of stakes horses Liberty Rose, Liberty Hall, Tantra and Elusive Wonder.
Darley champion Commands holds a winning lead in the Australian premiership for winners this season. He has sired 130 individual winners, 11 ahead of Encosta de Lago.
