Gold Coast trainer Alan Bailey predicted better things ahead for expensive filly Our Design following her breakthrough win at Doomben on Wednesday.
Our Design (3f Stratum – Queen Of Fashion by Last Tycoon) led from the outset for a runaway four length victory over 1350m. “She’s one of the nicest fillies I’ve had for some time,” Bailey predicted. “She’s got the makings of winter carnival contender next year.”
Bailey paid $250,000 on behalf of long time client Ken McDonald for the filly from Woodridge Farm at the NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale last year. “I knew I was on to something at Karaka,” Bailey recalled. “I had to outbid Sir Patrick Hogan to get her!”
McDonald and Bailey have raced numerous winners over the years under the Blue Horizon banner. “Ken’s into resource recycling but I don’t know much about that,” Bailey said. “But I do know he puts a lot of money into racing and has upwards of 40 horses in work at any one time.”
Our Design is by Widden champion Stratum and is the second foal of Queen Of Fashion following Doomben winner Favours Traded (Al Maher).
Queen Of Fashion is a half-sister to the dam of G2 Chantilly winner Joanna (High Chaparral) and Listed Milan winner Cazals (Aussie Rules).
