Winx on top on Turf

Winx has been ranked the world’s best racehorse on turf and third overall behind dirt performers Arrogate and California Chrome.

The Street Cry mare was given a 130 rating for that amazing 8 length win over Hartnell when defending her Cox Plate crown on October 22.

Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Arrogate (134) leap-frogged California Chrome (133) at Santa Anita on Saturday to take over at the top of the Longines Worlds Best Racehorse Rankings.

The 130 figure also ranks Winx among the planet’s best fillies & mares – Black Caviar, Treve and Goldikova – since the turn of the century.

Pressure follows Winx everywhere.  This is built largely on a sensational winning sequence, which now spans 13 races – including 9 at Group 1 level – at distances from 1300m to 2200m.

Of course, all great winning runs come to an end eventually, but if Winx can maintain an 8 length margin over Hartnell for the next year it’s hard to imagine her getting beaten in Australia.

Its sets up an exciting autumn at The Championships in Sydney as she closes in on another Street Cry champion.

The Darley sire’s USA heroine Zenyatta won 19 on the trot before losing her unbeaten record in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.  That will take some beating but Winx could be around that mark when she attempts to join Kingston Town as a three-time winner of the Cox Plate.

Trainer Chris Waller hasn’t decided if or when to send Winx to Europe.  Beyond the 2017 Cox Plate, the plan is to keep her racing for as long as she’s happy and healthy.
