Universal Ruler filly Rule To Wyn has been a model of consistency for her owners David and Michelle Bagley.
She hasn’t been out of a place in five start since returning from a spell in April. After winning a Northam maiden last month, she rewarded connections with a determined victory at Belmont on Wednesday.
Rule To Wyn (2f Universal Ruler – Wynyard Hall by Blackfriars) overcame a hip-and-shoulder on the home turn to defeat even-money favourite Mamaroochy (Duporth) by a length and a half. She cast a hind-plate in the scrimmage following a chain-reaction involving Vampatorio and Starcut.
“It carted her five and six wide but she still hit the line strongly,” trainer Jim Taylor said. “I know they’ve got a good opinion of the runner-up so it was a good win.
“She keeps getting better and better with every run and is helping Universal Ruler make his mark at stud.”
Rule To Wyn is a half-sister to Ascot stakes winner Darlington Abbey and was a $26,000 buy as a foal. Their dam Wynyard Hall is a sister to WATC Derby winner Rohan and she has a rising two year-old colt by Universal Ruler.
Universal Ruler (Scenic) will be crowned WA Champion first-season sire at the end of this month. Scenic Lodge will stand him for a $3,850 (inc gst) fee this year.
