Wyong catch-cry – Didntcostalot

Didntcostalot became the second maiden to break a track record in NSW this week when he clocked 62.32 seconds for 1100 metres at Wyong on Thursday.

The Danerich colt careered away to win the Thorn-Nesco-Electra Maiden Plate by five lengths and eclipsed the previous course record set by Rose Of Kings in 2005.

Pentasia (Pentire) had shattered the 1100 metre track record in a Grafton maiden on Tuesday.

Jockey Jeff Penza held Didntcostalot to a slight advantage to the turn at Wyong.  Then he gave the colt two backhanders and they scorched away to win unextended.

“There is loads of improvement in him because he did a few things wrong,” Penza told AAP   “I was on one rein the whole way.  When he settles and goes straight, he could be anything.”

Didntcostalot (3c Danerich – Costi by Encosta de Lago) races for Vern Rayner’s Classic Bloodstock.  His dam is a half-sister to Malaysian stakes winner Magic Wish (Southern Appeal).

Costi is also the dam of Combien (Marmottan), a Launceston winner in August and she has foaled a colt and a filly by Giant’s Causeway sire Giacosa the last two years.

Didntcostalot was indeed a cheap lot at the 2010 Magic Millions Winter yearling sale making just $3,000.

Danerich was one of Danehill’s fastest sons winning the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield and Mitchell McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Like all sire prospects, Danerich needs a good runner to take the spotlight.  Didntcostalot could be the catch-cry as his first crop set out on the all important second-half of their three year-old season.

Trainer Marc Conners said Didntcostalot had really come of age this time in.  “We knew he had plenty of ability but he still has a lot to learn,” Conners said.  “He could be one of the best horses I have put a bridle on!”

Danerich stands at Rangal Park in Euroa alongside Keltrice and Ne Coupez Pas.
