Yosei upset odds-on favourite Beaded in the final Group 1 of the season on Saturday. The Victorian bred filly triumphed for the third time at the highest level in the Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.
Yosei (3f Invincible Spirit – Fuji Fairy by Fuji Kiseki) had won the G1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes and MRC Thousand Guineas in 2010. “Everything went to plan; it’s just unbelievable,” trainer Stuart Webb beamed. “I’m just so lucky that she walked through my door.”
Webb is a farrier by trade and he prepares a small string at Caulfield.
Yosei is by former Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit and was passed-in for $14,500 as a foal at the 2008 Inglis Great Southern Sale. She was offered by Woodlawn Park and came in under the radar before going on to earn $890,000.
She was retained by breeder John Pittard and he shares ownership in the filly with Paul and Robert McClure.
Yosei’s dam Fuji Fairy was beaten 11 lengths at Ballarat at her only start. Second dam Lilac Fairy (Rainbow Quest) was an unraced half-sister to South African G2 winner Zelator (Alzao).
Invincible Spirit also sired brilliant sprinter I Am Invincible in Australia and he is gearing up for a second book at Yarraman Park.
