The Group 1 Myer Classic at Flemington is the ultimate spring aim for You’re So Good (NZ) but trainer Nigel Blackiston believes the mare is forward enough to make her presence felt at Caulfield this Saturday.
You’re So Good (4m Savabeel – Lightning Spur by Flying Spur) is set to run first-up in the G3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) and has been readied for that race with two jump-outs including a win in wet conditions last Friday at Flemington.
“When she goes out she always gives her best,” Blackiston said. “She has come back bigger, stronger and more mature and will run a super race on Saturday.”
The daughter of Waikato Stud champion Savabeel won the LR Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley and finished second in the G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington during her autumn campaign. She went for a winter spell after an unplaced run in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes in Sydney.
Blackiston believes You’re So Good is best suited as a sprinter-miler and is looking forward to the spring ahead. “It’s always been the plan to kick off in the Cockram before working her way through the spring carnival. She will go to the Let’s Elope second-up at Flemington and then we can determine which way we go towards the Myer.”
You’re So Good was bred by Celia Crawshaw and was purchased by Spicer Thoroughbreds and Sheamus Mills Bloodstock from Waikato Stud at NZ Bloodstock’s 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for $80,000.
Her dam Lightning Spur is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winning sprinter Melito (Redoute’s Choice).
