Glenlogan Park sweeps TBQA awards

Glenlogan Park has swept three of the four categories at the Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association awards for 2012-13.

Show A Heart is Queensland’s Champion sire for the fifth consecutive year.  “It’s an amazing achievement,” TBQA President Basil Nolan said.  “For a stallion to consistently produce the top class gallopers and black type winners over this period of time is tremendous.”

Glenlogan Park sire Real Saga hit the ground running with his initial crop winning and was Champion 2YO Sire and Champion First Season Sire.

“We’re thrilled with the performance of the whole team of sires at Glenlogan and these two stallions in particular are really leading the way,” Glenlogan Park manager Steve Morley said.

“Show a Heart has been setting benchmarks for plenty of years now and continues to go from strength to strength.  Real Saga would have to be one of the most exciting stallions to ever come from this State and he also finished fourth on the Australian 2YO sires list.”

Once again there were excellent candidates for the Broodmare of the Year with the dams of Shoot Out (Pentamerous), Buffering (Action Annie), Lady of Harrods (Royal Conspiracy), Lights of Heaven (I’m in Heaven) and Luckygray (Damah Lady) all in contention.

After robust debate, the TBQA committee decided that Pentamerous should be awarded Broodmare of the Year due to Shoot Out’s Group 1 wins in the George Main Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes.

Pentamerous (NZ) is owned by prominent racing and breeding identities Linda and Graham Huddy.  “We are so excited and amazed to have won this award,” said Linda.  “It’s an honour and a real highlight for us.  So many people breed for years and never get an award like this, so it’s pretty amazing.”

The Huddys purchased Pentamerous in August 2009 from Oaklands Stud with a Ferocity filly at foot and put her to Encosta De Lago but that filly unfortunately had to be put down due to illness.  She has since had two full brothers to Shoot Out and the Huddys plan to retain and race them both.

Pentamerous (Pentire) is due to foal shortly, again to High Chaparral and the Huddys will breed her back to Exceed and Excel

“She’s a lovely horse, very kind and sensible with a lovely temperament that she has passed on to all her foals, I think that has a lot to do with how well they perform,” stated Linda.  “She’s a nice big mare and seems to be doing something right.  Mares like her certainly don’t come along every day.”
