Exciting three-year-old sprinter Zamorar isn’t a certain starter in the G1 Newmarket Hcp on March 10 despite a brilliant first-up victory at Moonee Valley last Friday night.
Zamorar (3g Scandal Keeper – Chloris by Scenic) started a long odds-on favourite in the Programmed Property Services Plate (1200m) and was never in danger against more seasoned sprinters while shouldering 58.5kg.
“He’s a lovely horse but it’s a different story throwing him into a race like the Newmarket ,” trainer David Bourne said. “There are plenty of options and we will decide what path to plot later this month.”
Earlier this season, Zamorar was a runaway winner at Bendigo and Moonee Valley before his final spring assignment in the G1 Coolmore Stakes at Flemington. He finished a close up fourth to champion colt Sepoy down the same straight course as the Newmarket.
Zamorar is by Danzig sire Scandal Keeper. He stands at Yarradale Stud and is a three-quarter brother to the dam of Sepoy.
Scandal Keeper’s top priced lot at the Perth Magic Millions this week has been Yarradale’s colt from Xaaffair. A half-brother to LR Gimcrack Stakes winner Flying Affair, he made $80,000 to the bid of leading trainer Lindsey Smith.
