Zamorar set for Coolmore clash with Sepoy

Seymour trainer Butch Bourne expects Zamorar to run the race of his life against Sepoy at Flemington this Saturday.

Bourne has pitched Zamorar in at the deep end for a Group 1 clash with Sheikh Mohammed’s pin-up colt in the Coolmore Stakes.  The Dubai ruler will be a guest of the VRC at Flemington for the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

Zamorar (3g Scandal Keeper – Chloris by Scenic) has scored runaway wins at his last two starts at Bendigo and Moonee Valley.  “We have nothing to lose,” Bourne said.  “My horse is well and he’s on the climb.

Zamorar’s brilliant start to his career has also put the spotlight on his sire Scandal Keeper who stands at Yarradale Stud in Western Australia.

Scandal Keeper (USA) is a son of Danzig and, ironically, he is a three-quarter brother to the dam of Sepoy.

Scandal Keeper was bred and raced by Sheikh Mohammed to a Newmarket 2YO victory from just three starts.  Yarradale owner Ron Sayers stands him for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.

Bourne acknowledges Sepoy is a champion but doesn’t see any downside in running his up-and-coming sprinter.  “We are under no illusions at all,” he said.  “But I think Zamorar is pretty smart.”
