Zennista (NZ) will be given the chance to enhance her residual value after scoring a Listed victory in the AG Challenge Stakes (1600m) at Wanganui on Saturday.
Trainer Lisa Latta will set the powerful mare for the Opunake Cup at Pukekura and the Winter Cup at Riccarton towards the back end of the season.
Zennista (4m Zenno Rob Roy – Zarnitsa by Maroof) had won the Rangitikei Gold Cup (1600m) at Awapuni before blitzing her rivals at Wanganui. Rememba Howe (Handsome Ransom) put up a good fight in the straight but was no match for the winner.
Zennista was runner-up to Midnight Oil (Keeper) in the G1 New Zealand Oaks last season and she was also second home to Oak Park (More Than Ready) in the LR Rotorua Stakes.
Awapuni based Latta is having a highly successful season with 65 wins and over $1.40 million in prizemoney.
Bred by John Berger, Zennista was a $20,000 buy from Oxford Thoroughbreds at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Festival Sale. She has now earned over $200,000 in stakes.
Earlier this year, Zennista’s half-brother by Thano (Southern Halo) was purchased as a yearling from the Karaka Select Sale by Regal Farm for $42,500.
