Zenyatta has been pronounced in foal at the 60 day mark of her second mating to Darley sire Bernardini.
Zenyatta (7m Street Cry – Vertigineux by Kris S.) had been declared in foal to Bernardini earlier in the year but was not positive when checked at the 35 day mark in March.
Owners Jerry and Ann Moss will not test to determine the sex of Zenyatta’s prospective foal.
Zenyatta retired as North America’s richest mare with $7.30 million in earnings as well as being honoured as Horse of the Year in 2010 and Champion Older Female in 2008, ’09 and ‘10.
Zenyatta became the first female to win the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2009 but lost a contentious Horse of the Year vote to Rachel Alexandra.
In 2010, Zenyatta extended her perfect career mark to 19-for-19, until losing for the first time at her final start in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Though she was narrowly denied by Blame at Churchill Downs, Zenyatta won the war for the Horse of the Year title.
News of Zenyatta’s PPT follows the recent announcement Rachel Alexandra is in foal to Curlin.
