Mungrup Stud stallion Oratorio (Aus) sired another Belmont double shortly after the Great Southern nursery announced its fees for 2011.
Oratorio (Stravinsky) stood for a West Australian record $33,000 (inc gst) last year and his yearlings sold to $180,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.
Even so, his fee for this year has been reduced to $27,500. “Mungrup Stud is mindful of Australia’s current breeding and selling climate,” Mungrup Stud’s Ann Croucher said. “We have structured our 2011 service fees to reflect present market trends.”
In the last two years, Oratorio has covered the dams of Miss Andretti, Lords Ransom, Guest Wing, Moccasin Bend, Clueless Angel, Motion Pictures and Gold Rocks.
Diatorio (3f Oratorio – Diagnostic by Scenic) claimed the first leg of the Oratorio double at Belmont’s midweek meeting on Wednesday. The David Harrison trained filly was coming off a Pinjarra maiden win on May 19.
Managing part-owner Ron O’Malley bought her for $21,000 from the Balmoral Park draft at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions.
Harrison trained Oratorio sprinter Waratah’s Secret to Group 3 victories in the Scahill Stakes and Prince of Wales Stakes earlier this season.
Latoria also won at Belmont on the back of an all-the-way victory on the same Pinjarra program as Diatorio. She is a homebred for Des De Largie
Latoria (4m Oratorio – Laventour by Metal Storm) is from an unraced half-sister to Track Jester (Tenby) who won 8 races for De Largie including the G3 Asian Beau Stakes.
Besides Oratorio, Mungrup Stud’s roster for 2011 comprises Danehill Express ($9,900), Due Sasso ($5,500), Hala Bek ($5,500) and McFlirt ($3,300).
