Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes will make a decision next week whether to send promising youngster Cristal Eyes to Sydney for The Championships.
The All Too Hard filly started a $1.22 favourite in the Parklea 2yo Maiden Plate (1400m) at Pakenham on Thursday evening and the result was never really in doubt. She sat outside the leader and won with something in hand.
“That was pretty comfortable…she quickened up nicely in the last 600m,” winning jockey Damien Oliver reported. “They went pretty slow early so she was never going to win by an extended margin. But she gave me a good feel.”
Cristal Eyes (pictured) was dropping back in grade following an impressive placing in the TBV Stakes Gr.3 at Flemington on March 17. She’s the first winner for Champagne Run (More Than Ready) and was a $100,000 buy for Alan Green and Brian Singer at the 2017 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Vinery stallion All Too Hard also sired her three-quarter brother Villermont to a Sandown Guineas Gr.2 victory ahead of more Group assignments at the Sydney Championships.
“We told Damien to ride her like she was the best filly in the race,” Lindsay Park spokesman Bruno Rouge-Serret said. “They dawdled and then sprinted home. It was a business-like win and a good result for Alan and Brian who are great supporters of the stable.
“She’s a stakes-class filly and David will make a decision in the next few days whether to whip her up to Sydney.”
Long-term, Hayes has the Thousand Guineas Gr.1 as a spring goal but Cristal Eyes does hold a Group 2 nomination for the $600,000 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 14.
