Last year’s G1 English & Irish 2000 Guineas winner Churchill will shuttle to Coolmore Stud’s Australian base in 2018.
The Galileo stallion is covering his first book of mares in Ireland after retiring from racing last year having won 7 of 13 starts. The first two of his 4 Group 1 victories came as a juvenile in National Stakes at the Curragh and Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
Churchill’s dam Meow (Storm Cat) was a Listed winner of the Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh. She also foaled high-class Galileo filly Clemmie whose three victories last season included the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes.
Coolmore Australia manager Colm Santry said he was impressed with the stallion. “I travelled to Ireland last week to inspect a number of stallions and I was blown away by Churchill,” said Santry. “He has an unbelievable combination of size, power, quality and athleticism.
“I have no doubt that people are going to be very taken by him when they see him in the flesh.”
Churchill stands for a €35,000 fee in Ireland (AUD 56,355) and has been priced at $27,500 (inc gst) for his first book in Australia.
