Another Hussonet on the horizon

A decision on autumn plans for Hussonet filly Colorado Claire will be made by Sydney trainer John O’Shea this week.

Colorado Claire (3f Hussonet – Lunaspur by Flying Spur) landed the Hyland Race Colours Hcp (1250m) at Canterbury on Wednesday to earn a shot at black-type racing.

O’Shea said the options were the Surround Stakes in Sydney and Kewney Stakes in Melbourne.  They are both scheduled for 1400m on March 10.  “It was a good effort with the 59 kg,” O’Shea said after the filly parked on the pace for an easy first-up victory.  “There are much better things in store for her.”

Colorado Claire is a sister to Brisbane black-type filly Moonlight Hussey.  Their dam Lunaspur was a Listed winner of the SAJC Morphettville Guineas.  The mare has a 2yo filly by Hussonet and she foaled a colt by Manhattan Rain in the spring.

Champion Arrowfield / Cornerstone sire Hussonet is enjoying another high-profile season and his current crop of Arrowfield bred three year-olds now numbers 31 winners of 50 races.

NZ South Island star Bangalore Bullet tops the list with wins at his last two starts in the Listed Dunedin Guineas and Gore Guineas.  Australian black-type Hussonets from the same crop include Angel of Mercy, Gioe, Happy Hussy and Red Dress Marley.  And his Lindsay Park colt Rifleman is also a stakes winner of the future.

Hussonet has 8 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale starting on Monday, February 27.  They include the Bellerive Stud fillies from Zaldivar (Lot 351)     and Barsha (Lot 403) and the Cornerstone colt out of Coincidental (Lot 463).
