Commanding Jewel added another Group win to her impressive record when too good in Saturday’s G2 Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington.
A $205,000 purchase for Brad Spicer from the draft of Vinery Stud at the 2011 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Commanding Jewel is trained by Leon Corstens and was ridden to victory by Ben Melham. She reeled fellow Magic Millions graduate Catkins with a sustained sprint in the straight to score by a half length.
Corstens said the mare could have her next start in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap with plenty of upcoming options for the blue blooded four-year-old.
A winner of four races, including the G1 Thousand Guineas last spring, Commanding Jewel has earned over $540,000 for her connections and her potential broodmare value would have to be in seven figures.
Commanding Jewel is a three quarter sister to champion galloper Atlantic Jewel. The unbeaten mare will be chasing a 9: 9-0-0 record at Moonee Valley next Saturday.
They are both from the Melbourne winner Zabeel mare Regard, a mare who tragically produced just two foals before her premature death.
The family is well known at Magic Millions. As well as selling both Group 1 winners, the Gold Coast was also the venue for the sale of Regard as a yearling and a broodmare (in foal to Atlantic Jewel) as well as Regard’s dam Nanshan (Nashwan).
