Emirates Park Victoria resident Artie Schiller (USA) has sired his latest juvenile stakes winner on the first day of the Kentucky Downs summer carnival.
His colt Cajun Schill made a bold move down the straight to post an impressive victory in the LR Calumet Juvenile Stakes (1400m) on Saturday. The $300,000 event was his second in a row on turf following a five-length maiden win at Gulfstream Park.
The Bill Kaplan trained two year-old is the 27th stakes winner by Artie Schiller.
Runner-up John Q Public (Proud Citizen) had finished fourth in the G2 Saratoga Special last month and third-placed Good Intent (Scat Daddy) was appearing for the first Stateside after a debut victory at Newcastle, England on July 25.
Cajun Schill (2c Artie Schiller – Miss Louisiana by Miswaki) has earned $211,660 for owners David and Teresa Palmer who bought him for $45,000 out of the Denali Stud consignment at the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Artie Schiller and Darley champion Medaglia d’Oro are both by Sadler’s Wells sire El Prado. The latter claimed another juvenile Group 1 winner when Songbird claimed the $300,000 Del Mar Debutante on Saturday.
Among Artie Schiller’s leading North American 2yo stakes winners are Stephanie’s Kitten (Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf), Luck Of The Kitten (2nd Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf) and Bobby’s Kitten (G3 Belmont Pilgrim Stakes). In Australia, his juvenile leader has been Big Chill (G3 SAJC Breeders’ Stakes).
Artie Schiller stands for a $13,200 (inc gst) at Emirates Park’s Victorian base at Digger’s Rest.
