Zabeel stayer Oracy lost his unbeaten record when unplaced in the G1 Summer Cup in South Africa on Saturday but Australian bred starters compensated with a black-type double on the support card at Turffontein.
Oracy (NZ) was a firming 6/4 favourite in the Summer Cup but finished midfield behind Aslan (Silvano). Stablemate Eight Start (Street Cry) finished last of the 14 runners.
Oracy is trained by Charles Laird for Marcus Jooste and was a $400,000 buy out of the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Karaka yearling sale.
Laird had better luck when Fastnet Rock colt Curved Ball won the Group 2 Dingaans. He scored a convincing victory over stablemate Galileo’s Galaxy (Galileo).
Curved Ball was bred by Bart Cummings in partnership with the late Bill Wyllie who raced Magical Miss with the master trainer several years ago. Laird paid $200,000 for the colt at the 20008 Magic Millions National yearling sale.
Sidera (Galileo) maintained her unbeaten record when taking out the G3 Gomma Gomma Cup at Turffontein. The Mike de Kock trained filly cruised home to win by three-quarters of a length.
Sidera was purchased by Badgers Bloodstock for $45,000 at the 2008 Inglis Classic yearling sale. She was bred by Dato Tan Chin Nam and was consigned for sale by Think Big Stud. Her dam Freja (Danehill) is a sister to the dam of G3 winner Ransom Express.
