A Bernardini filly from a three-quarter sister to Johannesburg topped the inaugural Fasig-Tipton Fall Sale in Saratoga on Tuesday.
Closing Move (3f Bernardini – Show Me the Roses by Storm Cat) made $100,000 to the bid of Thomas Voss. The Kentucky-bred filly was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect. She has been placed four times in six starts for Sheikh Mohammed.
Her dam Show Me the Roses was placed at Sandown on debut before returning to the USA. Second dam Myth (Ogygian) also foaled Johannesburg. She is a half-sister to Minardi and Tale Of The Cat.
Fasig-Tipton, which is owned by a close associate of Sheikh Mohammed, instigated the sale in response to recent increases in prizemoney at New York tracks. The new Aqueduct casino has provided further revenue streams for the State’s racing and breeding industries.
“We’re very committed to this Sale and it was extremely well attended,” Fasig-Tipton vice president Bayne Welker said. “We’re excited about being here and working with the growing New York program.”
