Stephanie’s Kitten came from well off the pace to win the G1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland on Friday.
The daughter of Kitten’s Joy will be pointed towards the G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs next month.
Stephanie’s Kitten (2f Kitten’s Joy – Unfold the Rose by Catienus) won her maiden at Arlington in August and was coming off a third-place finish in the G3 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine.
Her owner-breeder Ken Ramsey stands the sire in Kentucky. “The stud fee just went up on Kitten’s Joy,” Ramsay beamed. “We won a Del Mar Oaks with this filly’s second dam Bail Out Becky.”
Kitten’s Joy (El Prado) was a G1 winner of the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and Secretariat Stakes before retiring to Ramsey’s Nicholasville Farm.
Kitten’s Joy was represented his first Australian winner when the Barb Joseph trained filly Was Meant To Be scored in Canberra on September 30. He covered 15 mares to southern hemisphere time in 2007 and they were exported to Australia the following May.
There’s another Aussie connection through Red Ransom mare Bail Out Becky. She is a half-sister to the dam of Vinery’s champion sire More Than Ready.
